Professor Steven Caluwaerts will give a talk on weather and climate modeling.
The miracle of atmospheric modelling: past, present and future
Since the mid‑20th century, numerical weather forecasts have been produced, and today we take their remarkable accuracy for granted. More recently, climate projections have entered the public sphere, playing a crucial role in guiding adaptation and mitigation policies. But what science underpins these atmospheric models, and why do they work so well?
In this talk, Prof. Steven Caluwaerts (Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium – Ghent University) will explore the past, present, and future of weather and climate modelling. He will also highlight several ongoing research projects at Belgian research institutions that are advancing our understanding of the atmosphere and its role in a changing climate.
Hybrid meeting can be arranged if enough external interest (let us know on our mail below).
