SUMMARY:Departmental colloquium on weather and climate modeling by Prof. Steven Caluwaerts (UGent/KMI)
DESCRIPTION:Professor Steven Caluwaerts will give a talk on weather and climate modeling. \nThe miracle of atmospheric modelling: past\, present and future\n \nSince the mid‑20th century\, numerical weather forecasts have been produced\, and today we take their remarkable accuracy for granted. More recently\, climate projections have entered the public sphere\, playing a crucial role in guiding adaptation and mitigation policies. But what science underpins these atmospheric models\, and why do they work so well?\n\nIn this talk\, Prof. Steven Caluwaerts (Royal Meteorological Institute of Belgium – Ghent University) will explore the past\, present\, and future of weather and climate modelling. He will also highlight several ongoing research projects at Belgian research institutions that are advancing our understanding of the atmosphere and its role in a changing climate.\nHybrid meeting can be arranged if enough external interest (let us know on our mail below). \nDetails\nThursday 13/05\nCampus Groenenborger\, G.US.024\n(Groenenborgerlaan 171\, 2020 Antwerpen)\nPlanning:\n– 16:15h start of talk\n– 17h reception \nHope to see you there! \nWith kind regards\,\nThe Antwerp Young Minds \nContact: youngminds@uantwerpen.be

SUMMARY:Theory at sea 2026
DESCRIPTION:On Thursday and Friday June 4-5\, 2026 theoretical and mathematical physicists working in Flanders meet again in an informal joint workshop at Vayamundo Oostende.\nThe goal: To enjoy knowing the various theory groups at the Flemish universities\, and to hear about current research themes and plans. We hope that it fosters collaborations for organizing education (Master- and Ph.D.level) and research\, to benefit future careers and developments in theoretical and mathematical physics in Flanders.

SUMMARY:EPS-TIG: Frontiers in Measurement Techniques
DESCRIPTION:The EPS-TIG event is a multi-day\, hands-on workshop in Leiden that brings together bachelor and master students in Physics and Astrophysics from across Europe. Over four days\, particpants explore how cutting-edge measurement technologies are developed\, how they enable science\, and how innovations move between academia en industry. \nThis year’s theme\, “Frontiers of Measurement Techniques”\, highlights the measurement driven nature of modern physics: from quantum sensing and ultra-sensitive detection to high-performance instrumentation and novel experimental approaches. The central aim is to bridge the gap between industrial innovation and academic research\, showing participants how real-world engineering constraints and scientific curiosity jointly shape the next generation of experiments. \nMore details on the final programme\, speakers\, company visits\, participation/registration\, and logistical information will be published on this page as they are confirmed. \nIf you would like to participate or collaborate\, please reach out via the contact details listed on the website.
