Ewald Janssens is full professor at KU Leuven (Belgium). He obtained his Ph.D degree in Science, Physics at KU Leuven (2004) and worked as postdoc at KU Leuven and the FU Berlin (Germany) from 2004 to 2007. After a job in the financial sector as a consultant (2007-2010), he returned to science. Ewald is specialized in the production and characterization of clusters of atoms. His current research mainly deals with chemical reactivity of clusters, both isolated in the gas phase and deposited on surfaces such as thin oxide layers and graphene. Not only fundamental microscopic insight is acquired, but attention is paid as well to potential applications such as gas sensors, catalysts and materials for hydrogen storage.
